Hot Air Balloon- A Groupon Experience

I spent $251+ gratuity for a hot air balloon ride for two via Groupon. Was it worth it? A little backstory, it was October of 2016 and per usual I was looking on Groupon for an anniversary date in June of 2017 (I like planning ahead and love deals). I came across a popular posting for “Hot Air Balloon Ride for Two on a Weekday or Any Day from Sunrise Balloons (53% Off)“. Now this is how this site always gets me: how much I’ll save and how convincing the photo looks. I tricked myself into thinking that I was basically…

Aloha State

“Guys… let’s go to Hawaii”, and that’s how six roommates decided to go to Maui for one week. Whether it was stemmed by watching the Terrace House franchise on Netflix, getting wanderlust from social media, or realizing that if we have the time and opportunity why not go?   I need a chance to pause and fully take in the commitment that is made when you travel with your friends. Especially with roommates. We have lived together for almost a full year and this is the first time all of us had been consecutively spent time together without doing our…

All for a Dumb Swing

I was born into my family with one sister, but I grew up with three. Not only were our parent’s all friends, but our Dad’s were all farmers. Grabbing dinner with our three families was a ritual whether it was just casually or for celebrations. We saw each other more frequently than we saw our own relatives. It’s so much fun to reminisce about our own stupidity because we grew up experiencing it together. Our most recent mistake was to choose to go on a hike right after it rained. I’m sure if you went to school at San Luis Obispo…

Ovaries before Broveries in LA

*This is such a better title than Bro’s Before Hoe’s* I met Mel at Freshman Orientation in the summer of 2011. First thought, this girl has red hair and is confident as hell. We didn’t talk at all but her personality was something I wouldn’t forget. Fast forward to the first day of school, we just listened to a pep talk from the Chancellor of UCI. I was excited and nervous but ultimately alone since we were separated by major and all the people that I had connected with beforehand were gone. Walking out of the Bren Events Center someone…

HGTV Heaven

I am sure so many people say this but I would consider moving to Waco, TX for one reason: for Chip and Joanna Gaines to renovate/decorate my home. If you are living under a rock and don’t know of these two I want to hit you… with some information about them. HGTV King (real estate/construction) and Queen (design) ~12 years of teamwork utilized for flipping houses They put Waco on the map Family, Faith, Community are their focuses They are seriously goals. To bring even more recognition to Waco, they opened the “Magnolia Market”. A place that is easily distinguishable…

Dallas, TX- The Big D

I’m not sure about how I feel about growing up. I just finished filing my taxes but half the time I didn’t know what I was doing. Lucky for me but unfortunate for him, I have a very patient Dad who was willing to take each of my 9 calls worth of questions to simplify the tax lingo: Adjusted Tax Income, Itemized Deductions, blah blah blah.  These are the moments in my blossoming adulthood that I realize how much I love my parents. Another was when I went to Dallas for work. Not sure if it was because I was about…

All about that Rosemary

The most honored tradition as of late is Wednesday night dinners. I stole the idea from my Grandma (my Mom’s Mom) who hosts her dinners on Thursdays to this day. For me, it initially stemmed when my sister, Katie, moved closer to me during her Pharmacy rotation. I would visit her in her one bedroom apartment in Huntington Beach where we would get take out and *watch a movie. *in reality one or both of us would fall asleep Now, our Wednesday dinners consist of Kyler, Graham, Howard, and I (plus or minus a couple people) going over to Kate…

Hollywood! What’s your dream?

Please tell me you thought of Pretty Woman when you saw the title. I’ve watched that movie since I was young. Young enough to not realize that Julia Robert’s character, Vivian, was a prostitute and then you wonder why my parents let me watch that movie in the first place. Questionable parenting possibly? No of course not, they were just trying to show me the unconventional love story of a woman who fell for the man and not the money. Anyway, this isn’t about the movie it’s about the location. HOLLYWOOD! Today was the day that I was finally able…

24 Hours in San Francisco

Exhausted but so happy. I’ve had this trip planned for a month now so I wanted to make the most of our time. On Thursday I got into work at 7AM so I was able to leave work at 3PM. Our flight wasn’t until 6:20PM but we had to drop off Graham at his first Dog Hotel. I know it’s not fair in saying this but I felt like I just dropped off my kid at his first day of school. A mother dreading her child leaving for the first time. Although I was sad, he could care less and was excited…

A Road to Rio

Not mine obviously. I’m more of a past life sports person, the type of person who you are talking to and they briefly mentioned playing in High School or something. Sure I can be competitive, but mostly when it comes to playing a risky game of Monopoly or trying to win a “Chubby Bunny” contest. When I mentioned a Road to Rio I meant Howard Shu. I’ve known him since I was 16 and imagine knowing him till I die since he is my sister’s boyfriend’s brother. Our most recent convo was along the lines of who will be a better…
